Ingredients
  

  • 3 pounds apples about 6–8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

  1. Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.
  2. Place the apples in a large saucepan with water, sugar (optional), cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until the apples are soft and tender.
  5. Remove the lid and cook for an additional 5 minutes to thicken the sauce slightly.
  6. Mash the apples with a potato masher for a chunky texture or blend for a smooth applesauce.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or cinnamon if needed.
  8. Let cool before serving or store in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For smoother applesauce, use an immersion blender or regular blender.
  • Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
  • Store in the fridge up to 7 days or freeze up to 3 months.
